How Provecho is made
Provecho dinnerware is handmade ceramic using custom molds in the Mexican traditional process of molding, air-drying, kiln firing, smoothing, adding glaze and firing again.
The colors of San Miguel are our creative inspiration.
Matte Ceramic Pottery
Provecho Ceramic Pottery is made of sand and natural products that when chemically combined and heated, react to create strong products and impressive colors.
Raw materials for Provecho
Clay mineral Kaolinite, a layered silicate clay mineral that forms from the chemical weathering of feldspar (a rock-forming mineral consisting of alumina silicates of potassium, sodium, and calcium). Alumina is aluminum oxide with silica, it is the most important component in the
constitution of clays and enamels.
Matte finishes are smooth because the sand particles melt into glass, and the smoothness of the glaze is not affected by light reflecting properties. A matte finish glaze uses larger sand particles than a glossy finish glaze. This type of finish feels smooth once fired. The larger particles melt and form a glass that bonds directly with the ceramic piece creating a tough outer coating for protection.
